Dell Inspiron N5050 Hard Drive not Recognized

I recently turned on my Dell Inspirion N5050 with Windows 7 Home Premium and received a several  codes on a black screen:

"PXE-E61: Media test failure, check cable

PXE-M0F: Exiting PXE ROM

Reboot and Select proper Boot device or insert boot media and press key."

Pressing any key just causes a loop where the same screen appears.

Any ideas what is wrong and how to fix it?

Thanks,

Rob

Hi Rob,

I would suggest that you run the diagnostics on the computer by following the steps mentioned in the video below and check if there is any issue with the hardware on your system.

Please let me know the findings.

Unplug the system, disconnect or remove the battery and hold the power button for 30 sec.  Remove the base cover, then the hard drive -- and reinstall it.  If it's then seen by setup, run a full diagnostic (F12 at powerup).

If it's not seen after you do the above, the drive is toast - replace it with a new one.
