Dell Inspiron cursor jumps

While typing on my 3 year old Dell Inspiron laptop the cursor will jump at will. No matter how careful I am to not touch the touch pad it jumps. Sometimes I will push one key and poof I am at the bottom of the page or if on a web page it might jump "back". Anyone else have this issue or know how to fix?? JP
