Because it's not a card - the video chip is soldered to the system board.  To change from yours to ATI you must replace the entire system board.

You would have to buy the MOBO with the ATI video chip. You would only have at most 6 month warranty on the new upgraded MOBO(original system and parts are covered under the warranty). If you required service on the system you would have to take out the new board and put the one in that shipped with the system,or find yourself with a replaced board without the chip on it.

Yes.  Beyond the cost of a board ($300-400) you will lose your warranty on the system as well.

Thanks for the help. I think only hard disk and Ram can be updated.

i have a question about this does the card it self over-heat and become unsoldered. the reason for my question is that i have a inspiron n4010 that i'm fixing for a friend. at first we thought is was just the screen that needed to be replaced due to being cracked. but after a fresh LCD is installed i get nothing but a white screen if i attempt to connect to a external screen i get no response. that's why i ask I've heard that on HP's the device overheats so badly that the soldering comes loose so the screens stop work could this be the same issue here. sorry if its a long question any help will be greatly appreciated

Much more likely is that whatever accident took out the screen, damaged the mainboard as well.
