Dell Latitude E5520 keyboard problem

I have a brand new Dell Latitude E5520, and I have a problem with the keyboard. Intermittently, it will type strings of zero-s when no keys are being touched. I am pretty certain that there has been no spillage or other physical damage to the keyboard.

Can anyone suggest what might be causing this and any possible solutions?

Thanks.

Hi jjeagle ,

Welcome to the community.

Well, it appears the 0 key is stuck and in this case you can try to wiggle the key a little and see if that helps. In case that does not help, you can try and external keyboard and if that works fine, the internal keyboard would need to be replaced.

Let me know the findings. Glad to be of assistance.

Thanks & Regards

Thanks for the swift answer.

I had thought of trying an external keyboard - but in order for that to be a meaningful test, I would need to disable the internal keyboard. Is there an easy way of doing this without disabling the driver software?

Thanks.

The only way to truly disable it is to disconnect it from the mainboard.

I have just tried using KeyTweak to disable the zero key, but interestingly the problem persists. Does this prove it is a software problem not a hardware problem?

I successfully fixed it by reinstalling the driver software.
