Dell Latitude E6520 Max Ram?
I have Dell Latitude E6520 with i7-2720QM 2.2Ghz and 8gb Ram.
Can I upgrade the ram to 16gb or more? Specs say no, but I see a few on eBay listed with 16gb.
If anyone knows, thanks!

Although unsupported the part is available on crucial here.
Sometimes you can put more memory in than Dell state as maximum, I have put 4 GB in an older laptop that stated 2 GB was the maximum and could use 3.25 GB fine.

Thanks. I was able to install 16GB since the processor supports up to 32gb. It's working great.

I upgraded to an e6530 and I was able to swap out the two 4gb memory modules with two 8gb memory modules.
Everything is working great and I hadn't noticed any decrease in battery. I do run in max performance mode all the time and my battery has lasted as long as 3 hours. Usually, i'll get 40% battery drop after an hour of heavy use (running multiple vm and developing code).

Your Computer has 2 memory slots and it can accommodate maximum of 8GB of memory.

nope... you just need to check your CPU to verify the max ram.
As soon as I put it in, the BIOS picked it up and it was available in Windows. I think both memory sticks need to be identical. I bought a 2x8 16gb kit from Microcenter.

To found what is the maximum memory that your machine can support check your CPU version
in my case i have a intel i7-2720QM, Dell say that my E6520 support a maximum of 8 GB but intel say that with this CPU it can support a amount of 32 GB

This is the memory module I am using:
Centon Memory Power 16GB
The Win7 Performance has it as:
Memory(RAM) Memory operations per second 7.5
I actually just upgraded to a Latitude E6530 and the memory works fine in there also. The performance is actually up to 7.6.
I have had no issues so far with either the E6520 or E6530 and 16GB

I have the same machine, Latitude 6520, with an i7-2720QM CPU. Upgraded to 16GB using a kit from Corsair, Part-# CMSO16GX3M2A1600C11. No problems at all.

I ordered my 6530 Ivy Bridge rd gen Intel Core i7-3720QM as soon as I could get one after it was released, and there was a note above th e"fixed" 8GB memory "option" that you could call some phone number if you had a special need for 16GB. So it seemed possible. I don't know if this all happened while 8GB memory sticks were very new and hard to come buy/very expensive or what the reasoning behind that was.
Intel says the max memory on my CPU is 32GB

So, if a 16GB memory stick becomes available then I can have two of those, of the SO-DIMM slots support that kind of addressing, correct?
A question for those of you that successfully upgraded to 16GB, have you noticed a significant drop in battery runtime? My only experience with that was back in my iBook G4 days. Doubling the memory in that was disasterou for battery runtime, so bad that I removed the new memory and put it back where it was. I bought that thing used, so the battery may well have been old, but I couldn't do half an hour to 45 minutes of runtime with the max memory in that... I'm curious to see what kind of affect doubling the memory on the e6530 has, as I want usable runtime more than I want more memory. But as I use this as an engineering workstation for my degree program at university, more memory would be handy as well.

Not true at all. I realize you said you think, and please don't take this as me being abrasive, because I'm not, simply trying to spread information I've found out through trial and error. You can add a 4GB stick and 8GB for a total of 12 GB of RAM which is what I'm currently running...or (2) 8's for 16 or ...a 16 and 8 for 24 if you'd like. Naturally Dell doesn't condone this behavior however...that's that facts.
