In addition shut down the computer and then run the hardware diagnostics, follow the steps below. Press the Fn + power this will initiate the hardware diagnostics. Let us know if there is any error code listed. Also try with a known good battery and check if the issue persists.

It could be that it has hung up in sleep and or Hibernation.
Disabling Sleep/Hibernation may help. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/920730
