The motherboard chipset, CPU and BIOS determine how much ram can be used and what type of ram can be installed. However according to specifications of your laptop it should support 16gb. However in this case the BIOS has probably been limited to 8gb. This is not uncommon for laptops.
It is also a function of the operating system. WIndows 7 Home Basic is limited to 8G (64-bit), while Home Premium has a 16G limit. 7Pro/Ultimate/Enterprise have much higher RAM limits.
wait, I'm confused do you mean that I can install 16GB ram now? My os is win7 eterprise, bios version is a10 and chipset is hm67.
The maximum memory supported by Inspiron N 5110 is 8GB irrespective of the BIOS version.
