Dell N7010 laptop video problem

I have posted about this problem in the past and have not got an answer, so I would like to try again.

The video setting, at most times, constantly changes from single monitor to dual monitor, along with the attendant blank screen and "boink" sound. This happens with no input from me.

I can look at the screen resolution in control panel as this happens and see the change back and forth.

I have corresponded with Intel about this since the video driver is theirs, but they have been no help either.

The computer is a Dell Inspiron N7010 and the op sys is Windows7 64 bit.

I have screen shots of the two different settings, but I don't see how to attach two files to this post If you can tell me how to do that I would appreciate it. . I have attached one of them.

What kind of monitor is this (the attached one and the res), and what types of cables are you using? I will be out of the office until Monday but will try to reply when back. Unless someone answers in the meantime.

Best regards,

Brad

RE: Dell N7010 laptop video problem

Hi Brad,

There are no monitors connected to this computer, nor have there ever been, other than the built-in. That's what makes this problem so strange.

Until I stopped it, there was a notification pop-up associated with the "monitor changes" which said in so many words, that the clone display resolution was wrong, and that the optimal was 600 X 900. That didn't make any sense either. That pop-up was apparently generated by the Intel video software because the little Intel logo was on it.

I asked for help from Intel, but all they could recommend was installing the latest driver, which was already installed on the computer.

I see what you're saying now, sorry for missing that. Can you private message me the Service Tag (do not post in public). It might be hardware related, but I would like to make sure.

Best regards,

Brad
