Dell Precision M4800 Memory not detected.
Hello, I have a Dell Precision M4800, i7-4940MX that came with 8GB of Samsung memory. I have installed a Samsung 850 Pro 1TB SSD in the SATA, and a Samsung 840 EVO 1TB in the mSATA slot. I am running BIOS version A13. I have disabled the Intel HD Graphics in the BIOS so it only uses the Nvidia Quadro K2100M. Everything was working fine.
I wanted to upgrade to 32GB memory so I bought 2 Patriot Viper 2x8GB kit. Model: PV316G160LC9SK. Each SODIMM module is supposed to be 8GB PC3-12800 1600MHz 1.35V 9-9-9-24.
When I remove the Samsung memory and install the Patriot Viper memory in all 4 slots or just 2 slots, the computer doesn't boot and I receive the LED blink code "No memory modules are installed/detected"
However, if I leave the Samsung memory in two of the slots and at the same time install two of the Patriot memory in the other two slots, the computer will boot. BIOS will show 24GB however it shows the speed of 1333 instead of 1600. If I remove the Samsung memory, once again it will not boot with the Patriot memory alone.
Why is the Patriot memory not recognized by itself and why can't I boot from it?
I looked at the Patriot Memory with the program CPU-Z. The timing tables shows JEDEC#3, JEDEC#4, JEDEC#5, XMP-1600. All voltages say 1.35V
Why is there no memory settings or XMP setting in the BIOS? Why would Dell offer me an unlocked i7-4940MX processor Extreme Edition, but there is no CPU settings for the unlocked multiplier?

Just wondered if you've had the chance to read this article? There is some good information there about how to choose memory for the M4800.

The memory was chosen correctly by using the Dell M4800 owners manual which states:
DDR3L, Speed 1600MHz&1866MHz. Intel Core i7 Quad core-Four DIMM slots. Maximum memory-Intel Core I7 Quad Core & i7 Quad Core Extreme processors 32GB.
Since I have the Intel Core i7 Quad Extreme processor, I checked Intel's website and it supports only 32GB, 1333/1600Mhz, DDR3L. That is why I chose 1600MHz and not 1866MHz and I chose 1.35 volts.
So the memory was purposely chosen as stated above, Patriot Viper PV316G160LC9SK. 1.35V, 1600Mhz. Each module is 8GB.
For example when original 4GB Samsung modules are installed in slots A & B and Patriot 8GB modules are installed in slots C & D, the computer will boot and show a total of 24GB and runs fine. I ran the windows memory diagnostics and it passed. I ran CPU-Z and it detects it.
Next, I only removed the Samsung memory from slots A & B, which should reduce total memory to 16GB, then the computer will not boot and I receive the LED blink code: "No memory modules are installed/detected."
I also tried to fill Slots A & B with Patriot memory modules for a total of 32GB and I receive the LED blink code: "No memory modules are installed/detected."
I think there is a BIOS problem. The BIOS is version A13.

I have the exact same experience, although I'm using a different memory vendor:

i had exactly the same with my crucial 2x8gb DDR3 1866 (PC3-14900) kit... Crucial website says that's m4800 compatible... but apparently not
anyone know why this happen ?

I have the same in my M4800, with my Corsair Vengence 4x4gb DDR3L 1866 CL10.... Only 2x4GB working on slots A & B
Please Help ....
