Dell Precision M6500 Laptop i7-X 920

Hi,

i would like to Kindly ask if any one faced the same issue as i have recently bought a Dell Precision M6500 Laptop i7-X 920

my issue is when i have the 4 memory slots installed the machine starts acting wired, blue screen shows up with almost any thing.

but if i use only 2 slots it goes without erros, i thought it might be the ram or the motherboard but i would like to ask for your expertise with such a problem,

second question can the machine take 2x16GB ram to reach the 32GB or not?

i7-920XM Specs: ark.intel.com/Product.aspx

Memory Specifications

Max Memory Size

(dependent on memory type) 8 GB

Memory Types DDR3-1066/1333

# of Memory Channels 2

Max Memory Bandwidth 21 GB/s

Physical Address Extensions 36-bit

You might be adding more RAM than the CPU permits for

Hi Rokyrock,

The M6500 supports up to 32GB, but only under certain conditions:

downloads.dell.com/.../precision-m6500_service manual_en-us.pdf

(memory requirements are listed under Technical Specifications)

What kind of DIMMs do you have fitted?

Looking at the details for M6500 DIMMs in our spare parts database, all of them (apart from 1GB capacity) are Dual Rank, Unbuffered, 1.8V, non-ECC. Any additional memory you add will need to match this.

That seems strange. What do you see for the CPU and memory in the BIOS/setup under System Information? Can you verify the serial numbers of the original DIMMs? (should be similar to HMT351S6AFR8C-H9)

Thanks

Can you send me a PM with the service tag so I can check the original configuration?

Is the BIOS fully up to date?

www.dell.com/.../driversdetails

Please also try running the diagnostics (extended) and, if possible, download and run Memtset

Thanks
