Dell Studio 1440
This system has been the bane of my existence since I've gotten it, and I'm wondering what I'm doing wrong. I've put windows 7 and 8 on it, both x64. What I need to know is, what system should I put on it that won't cause it to lag horribly as soon as I install the video drivers.
Should I have it on a 32bit system? Should I put vista on it (for obvious reasons I avoided that). Currently I have it running Linux since this is the only system I could get working smoothly on it. As this is my roommates computer and he is a gamer, this is not preferable, please help.

So far this seems to be working perfectly, I will install a few apps, give it maybe a day or two, and say weather this fixes the problem or not.

This only helped a small amount in the long run, it is now back to it's laggy self, any other suggestions would be nice.
