Dell Studio 1450 Fan Not Spinning
I have Dell Studio 1450 purchased on DELL Retail Store Singapore.
When I first I have it, no noticable problem detected. The CPU temperature seems OK. After I'm doing some Windows Update and restart my laptop, After 10 minutes, I feel that my laptop temperature is not normal, it is hot when I type, the laptop fan is not spinning, no cpu fan "spinning" sound as usual except harddrive.
I check the temperature using SpeedFan, the CPU core temperature reaches 85 C, and I'm doing nothing except browsing. That's odd. Usually it's only 35-38 C.
When I try to update the BIOS to version A01, while updating in progress, the fan starts spinning in high speed, and the temperature go down to 40 C.
First, I think the cpu fan problem is solved. But after a few days, this symptoms re-occurs, the temperature is always around 70-80 C and until now the CPU fan is still not spinning at all. I'm affraid if the problem continues, my Studio 1450 will become malfunction.
Is there any solution? Any help will be appreciated. Thank you.

Hi Shiva,
how are you? Long time no see :emotion-1:
As you suggests, I had contacted Dell technical support in my local area and have the fan (and it's heatsink) be replaced. Now it is working properly.
Oh, there is one thing, after fan replacement, I had update the BIOS to version A03, it has a better thermal management and also solving my portable HDD detection issue.
PS
Keep up the good work!

Hi Shiva,
I put the system in a clean flat table. I had tried running Dell diagnostics by pressing F12 at boot time. After a long wait (approx. 1 hour) for the CPU Memory test, then the Dell hardware diagnostics started. In Fan diagnostics section, I run the fan on/off test options, and the diagnostics start the fan test on high speed. The diagnostics result is:
Error Code: 3700:011B
Msg: PROCESSOR_FAN - The fan speed is incorrect
Fan speed results (on high speed diagnostic test) is: 0 RPM
The only thing I can make the fan spinning is re-flashing the BIOS v.A01 update. The fan is start spinning when flashing of BIOS block #34 started.
After BIOS flashing process is complete, the system restarts, and the fan is not spinning (again) even the CPU temperature reach > 70 C.
Is it a hardware problem or software (BIOS) problem? Any other solution?
Thank you in advance.
