Dell Touchpad utility issue on Inspiron 3442,3542,5748

I can reproduce this on multiple Dell Inspiron 17 5000 series (5748).
Inspiron 15 3000 series (3542) and Inspiron 14 3000 series (3442) are probably affected as well.

Stock BIOS A01 - no newer version available
Windows 8.1 64-bit
Dell Touchpad utility 18.0.7.1

Issue #1 When disabling the touch pad within the Dell Touchpad utility the touch pad re-enables itself after rebooting one or multiple times or after resuming from sleep. The setting does not persist.
So I had to disable the touch pad in Device Manager instead.

Issue #2 "Device Disconnect" sound after resuming from sleep. I think it's related to the touch pad drivers. This issue seems not present after re-installing Windows myself. Only occurs on factory pre-installed Windows.

I need a small clarification from you. I have ordered for dell inspiron 15 3542 and is on the way. But I came to know about the touchpad problem. My doubt is whether does the cursor gets freezed or just the right touchpad key alone is not working and also whether does the prob. exists even though when we connect a wireless or wired mouse ?

ya.. the cursor freezes, for 3 to 5 secs.. when you click the right or left key button or just tap on the touch pad it comes back online.. and there's no problem when connected to a wired or wireless mouse..

Thanks for your response. And another thing I want to know is that when did you start to face this problem? From the time of purchase or after few days? Have you reported this problem to Dell Technical Support? If so what solution did they give you?

I purchased an Inspiron 14 3000 series yesterday (31 August 2014) and facing the mentioned issue from the day of purchase itself. Had lot of expectation on Dell compared to my old HP laptop but this issue has depressed me. If Dell considers their customers and products more important these defective laptops should be taken back and provide refund to customers.

Hi Raja

Yesterday I placed order in amazon for Dell 3542. By this time I saw this touch pad issue post, it's heart breaking news. Still the problem is there, please suggest me how do feel about the product. Shall I go with this order or need to cancel?
