I own a Vostro 3550 with i5-2410M, however the mainboard is apparently defective - the notebook is not starting anymore. Now I have the opportunity to buy a second Vostro 3550 and I intend to use the parts for repairing my own Vostro, however this one has only an i3-2310M CPU. Question: is the motherboard the same and I can use this for exchanging or have both version different montherboards?
Thanks and regards,
Thank you for your message.
The I3, I5 & I7 (Sandy bridge) share the same motherboard. You can exchange parts between these laptops.

Just make sure both have the same type of video (GPU) - these were available with both integrated GPUs and discrete GPUs. One board CAN replace the other but not without replacing the heatsink assembly and power adapter.
