Dell XPS 12 Touch screen stop working when flipping screen
Hi,
So I bought the XPS 12 a month ago, and it is fantastic! However, I have been experiencing a problem:
When I flip the screen to go into tablet mode, after a short while, the touch stops working. The screen still shows what it's supposed to, but it won't register my fingers (or anyone elses...)
I have seen another post about a similar problem at the forum (http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/laptop/f/3518/p/19477009/20235618.aspx), but the solutions given (update BIOS, update chipset and video drivers, calibrating the touch screen) didn't solve my problem.
Are there any other solutions available, or is this a problem only I am experiencing?
Sincerely,
Ben

Hi Mr. Terry
I got my XPS 12 two weeks ago and I'm facing the same problems with the touch screen were it stops working randomly and after a few minutes it start working again.
I'm a university student and got this laptop mainly for taking notes / studying purposes. if this problem presume i can not relay on it.
best regards

Same problem here ... received Dell XPS 12 today (December 28, 2012), and experienced multiple episodes of the touch screen randomly stop working in the last 6 or so hours that I've been playing with it. There is no discernible pattern as to why/when it would stop working and why/when it would resume working again. This is frustrating and disappointing.
Mr. Terry B., I don't know if it is your current policy to reach out to every one who says they have a touch screen problem here ... if so, please send me a private message as well if you figure you can also help me.

Is there any people dealing the issue? Where is our support? I cal Dell and all suggestions I get are update your BIOS, update your graphic driver, update your xxx. I have send a friend request to Mr. Terry and also start a conversation with him but get no reply at all. Any people have the same situation as me? Is Dell really going to solve this problem?

I haven't had the problem since updating, but I also have kept auto-rotate off since then since I don't ever use it in portrait mode.

I have been trying to figure how to do that for a while because every time mine comes out of sleep it re-enables auto rotate. If you have solved this please explain how to me.

I'm pretty sure I just used the auto-rotate button on the side. It stays off for me unless I accidently hit that button.

I am afraid this is not the case with mine. Whenever it resumes from sleep the state of auto-rotate seems to get toggled which is massively annoying since I just want it to stay off 99% of the time.

Please add me to the list of users who have the disabled-touch screen issue. (Still a great laptop though)

Hi there. I have the exact problem as you SHOWBO1971. I have called on-site technician to replace the touchscreen on my XPS 12, which after that it stopped working. I thought it was a hardware issue, but I've encountered scenarios where it works.
One of them I found was safe mode! So it must be driver/OS/software issue. I spent hell of a lot of my limited time getting to that conclusion. Hopefully someone else can figure out what the real issue is.
Summary:
-Touchscreen doesn't work after Windows boots
-Says in Control Panel-System and Security-System that No Pen or Touch input is available for this Display
-Touchscreen works before boot, or in specialized circumstances. When you go to PC Settings, and tell it to reboot to get safe mode options, you can also use touch there. Also works in safe mode
-On Safe Mode it says Limited Touch 10-point Touch or something
Don't blame Dell. I think Microsoft is at fault here. I've seen other Windows 8 users complaining about it too.

I'm reading of a similar problem on the Lenovo X-1 Carbon Touch. Freezes for 30 seconds, then works for 6 seconds, cycle repeats. Other users simply have totally non-functional touch.

Hi Andrew,
I'm just a customer like you, but I can tell you on #3 that the disk space you listed is normal. Some space is used by the restore partition. Mine actually shows right now that I have 163GB of 223GB available.
Also, I'm not sure what changed, but I haven't encountered any touch screen problems for a long time. I have updated all available drivers and the BIOS.
I will admit that the touchpad is a bit touchy, but I have gotten used to it for the most part after adjusting it to my preferences. You might want to compare your laptop to the one for your wife to see if maybe there is just a problem with yours.

Hi TB - Andrew Here from South Africa - I have now received my XPS 12 (24 hours old) and my wife's is still in the box. I am thinking of returning both in the 7 day cool off period given a number of issues I am having and which I have heard about on your site. This is my first Dell and I was so excited to upgrade.
My wife's computer will remain in the box until I know Dell will resolve these issues.
I look forward to your response soonest
Thanks
Andrew
