I've had my XPS 13 for a couple months and it has been getting worse and worse with a flicker thats just more than half the screen. I took a picture of it during the flickering for an idea of what it looks like. I've updated the drivers to the most recent ones (I followed an older link to update and mine are newer than what were suggested). I'm at a loss as to why its doing this, there is no common action that I've been doing to make it happen. It typically just starts doing it on its own, with or without me actually using the laptop.
Did you manage to get this fixed? I've got the same problem - got my laptop at about the same time, and it's also affecting the bottom two thirds of the screen.
What is the exact system model? What is the current OS installed on the system? Does this happen with or without the adapter connected? Are you using an original Dell OEM Adapter?
Update the BIOS - http://dell.to/1n3X2po - enter the service tag and download the BIOS, update and restart the machine and check.
Reinstall the video drivers from the same support site or from the Vendor site - Intel.com
Connect an external monitor and check for the flickering.
Also, run the LCD bist and check for the flickering while swivelling the screen - Turn off the system and press and hold the "D" key + power button to turn on the system and it should run the LCD built in self test - see this link for more info - http://dell.to/1SkXNrG
Restart the system and press f12 key on startup - choose diagnostics. Let it run the diags and if you encounter any errors - make a note of the complete error and report the same to us.These are onboard diagnostics and they might possible pick some error if the hardware is not functional.
If the flickering is seen during the LCD test or the diagnostics and does not happen on the external monitor, then the LCD / LCD cable has an issue. If the issue is seen on the external monitor as well, then the graphics card / motherboard is at fault.
If the system is under warranty, Please click my DELL-username and write me a private conversation with the service tag and your contact details(Name, Phone#, Address and Email).
