Dell XPS 15 9550 Crackling Noise coming from speakers when plugging and un plugging power supply.

Hi

I Got my XPS 15 9550    Build Date Dec-16-2015 Bios Ver 01.00.07 4302.13 UEFI

The fault I was able to find so far that is disturbing issue.

Condition1  - "When pressing  brightness keys F11-F12" (little crackling distorted noise from speakers)

Condition 2 - " When music playing out of speakers also at sometimes can hear crackling noise coming" ( like speakers can't handle the frequency properly)

Condition3 major one -  "At the time of plugging in power supply in or out of laptop."                                                                                                                                                When video/audio/u-tube playing I can hear  short crackling noise lasting about (4-6 seconds) output sound also gets distorted coming from laptop speakers same results happening when using headphones except crackling noise less noticeable sounds becomes more distorted like a tape that about to get jammed.

So not sure what's goin on there I have latest Audio Realtek driver installed & Bios 01.00.07.

As far as power laptop came with 130W so crackling happening even with 130W also I have Precision m3800 laptop that use same power source try that as well same results so it is not defective power supply it is something else

Makes me believe that issue with speakers hardware picking up some kind of interference  (or crammed to close) or insulation are very poor.

Will be returning that one for full refund as this one I got for gift cant give it like that.

but I have ordered 2 so will try another one soon.

and also  CPU throtling as mention still  not  happening when plugging power source.

to sum up the major issue I experienced is the speakers as very poor sound with crackling noise here and there. power supply  (plugging /un plugging  while audio playing) cause most cracking noise.

plugging headphones in and out while sound is playing sometimes becomes unresponsive crashing.

So the speakers and sound  quality output  are very poor on this one.

besides  that seems to be good

Feed back would be good.

Did anyone experience similar issue and if yes what was your resolution possible fix (hardware replacement / drivers ect / settings adjustments)

Regards

Edward

Hi Edwards, I am facing exactly the same issue as yours. First they delay the product, then they cancel the product and when they finally ship the product has issues. Please let me know if you found any solution for this

I think I've found the problem. There is some default audio software on the XPS 15 called MaxxAudio Pro that's pushing the speakers waaaay to hard. If you type in "audio" to the search bar you can click "Dell Audio" and either turn the EQ off altogether or change to a different preset. I've found the "music"  preset is decent. You'll still need to adjust the Bass down some.

I've been experiencing the same problem. Any video I watch, whether its from youtube or a personal video, I hear a static/popping noise from the speaker when I am adjusting my brightness. Its quiet annoying. I bought my Dell XPS 15 from the Microsoft Store and had it exchanged today thinking it was defective. Even the specialists thought there was something wrong with the speaker but the new XPS 15 also had the same problem. I updated my BIOS, adjusted the MAXXAUDIO PRO but still cannot find a solution to it. I love this computer but I wish it didn't make these noises. Need a solution to this. HELP. Is there anything Dell can do?

Having the exact same problem and can't find a solution. Updated my bios and my audio driver. Still having major crackling happening when the sound is above 35%. It almost sounds like over-modulation when there's too high of a frequency being played back.

Dell released a new audio driver yesterday, which fixes this issue:

http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/19/Drivers/DriversDetails?driverId=VFWFF&fileId=352520586...

This is basically because Dell now supports ASIO (Audio Stream Input/Output) in its driver, meaning that the driver can directly access the audio hardware instead of having to go through several software layers first. For me, it solved the problem of the crackling noise when plugging the power supply in or out.

The change log:

Fixed
- Corrected the translation for Brazilian Portuguese

Enhancements
- Added support for ASIO
- Combined the USB audio driver for Dell Dock/Dell Thunderbolt Dock

Hi! First of all, did you install the driver package using the Setup.exe file after you downloaded it? This is the easiest way to go. It will automatically uninstall the previous driver as well.

Regarding your issue with the Device Manager; did you open the right device in the Device Manager?

All devices under "Audio inputs and outputs" have the same generic driver version (10.0.10586.0), which is equal to the Windows version. This doesn't affect audio playback performance.

It's all about the "Realtek High Definition Audio" device under "Sound, video and game controllers". After you installed the driver using the Setup.exe file in the driver folder (which also updates the Dell Audio application, and so ensuring optimal performance), you should be able to see the updated driver version (6.0.1.7737) like in the screenshot below.
