Dell XPS 15 L501X CPU Upgrade

Hello guys, I have a Dell XPS 15 L501X and i currently have the 'Intel® Core™ i5-480M Processor

(3M Cache, 2.66 GHz)' with a 'Nvidia Geforce GT 420M 1GB' and 8 gigs of RAM.

Can someone suggest me an upgrade for the CPU?

Its a socket CPU with socket type PGA988.

You can find all the current details of the processor here -

Any help or suggestion would be appreciated. Thank you.

You need a first-generation Core CPU (three numeric digits in the model number) at 35W or lower.

None of the later CPUs (four digits) will work - nor will anything that draws more than 35W.

The i7-740M should work -- with one caveat:  if you now have a 90W power supply, you will need a 130W unit to replace it.

The 840QM should also work, but that's the end of the road for your system.
