Dell XPS 15 L521x - Screen shows yellow flickering lines in white areas.
I need some help with diagnosing a problem with my dell laptop. I have a Dell XPS 15 L521x.
I have upgraded the RAM on the machine from 8GB to 16GB and also the built in caching mast SSD (32GB) to 250GB and made it the primary boot drive.
I upgraded the RAM a year ago, but when I took off the heatsink I just reattached it at the time.
I upgraded the msata yesterday, but this time I removed the heatsink, cleaned it and reapplied the thermal paste.
The new upgrade did what it should, my laptop boots super fast now. The issue I have is i randomly get yellow lines appear over the white areas on the screen. I've taken a few pictures which you can see in the links below:
Edit: I have tested this with another external monitor whilst the yellow lines were appearing and they didn't show on the external. I think it could be something to do with the IPS panel. Also note, this happens randomly and with less frequency now.

A quick update, it happened again today.
There a new picture showing on my laptop display and an external monitor.

Edit: I found a really useful article on another thread about what could be causing the issue with the panel here. I thought it had fixed my issue, but it hadn't as just a few minutes ago I had the yellow area reappear and then a minute later it went.
I'm not sure what this means, but it looks like what ever is affecting the screen seems to be very intermittent. Previously I would restart the laptop and it would normally be fine again. Yesterday I even got through half the day without them appearing, but this morning after being switched off over night they appeared then disappeared so I don't think this is due to overheating.

From the sounds of it this is probably the panel (since the external does not show this). I have seen it a few times follow the cable, but it is normally the panel. You could try reseating the display cable.
The external monitor is definitely the best method of testing this and showing it is not the GPU/Board (since the lines did not follow the external. If none of that works it could be random on the board not taking the display cable, but I really wouldn't expect that.
Let me know if you have any luck.
Best regards,
Brad

Thanks for the information Brad. I've tried re-seating the connector and the issue seems to have gone, but I haven't used the laptop in a few days. If it happens again I'll open her up and try re-seating the connector again. If that fails I supposed I'll have to get another panel from ebay and change it over, unless you guys can do something about it.
Thanks,
Arun.
