Dell XPS M140 Screen dims/darkens

Normal 0 false false false MicrosoftInternetExplorer4

Hello all,

New to this forum.  My ancient (but reliable) laptop (Dell XPS M140) has a dimmed screen that I first experienced a few months ago.  I can still see the desktop but I obviously want it back to normal as I am giving this laptop to my brother.  I noticed that if I gently press down on the top left hand of the screen, it brightens up.  I ended up folding a piece of paper and sticking it between the LCD screen and screen frame at that top left hand corner.  That kept the screen from dimming out but I want to see if I can fix before I hand it down.  I read about back lights and inverters but I wasn’t sure where to start.  I figured it might be a loose cable or something.  Some input would greatly be appreciated.

Thanks

I haven't  tried hooking it up to an external monitor because I don't have the correct cables to test it out.  Can I test it on my TV via s-video?

If there's a good image on an external monitor, it sounds like you'll need to replace the display panel to fix the problem.
