Dell XPS M1530 - Base System Device is not installed

My M1530 device troubleshooting reports "The driver for Base System Device is not installed. Install the latest driver for this device."  The system searches online for the driver but can't find one.  I'm running Windows 7 64-bit.

I've been to the Dell download site but there is nothing called "Base System Device" for me to download.  What exactly is the Base System Device and where can I find it?

Thanks and kind regards,

Rex L. Farris

Hi Rex L. Farris,

Welcome to the community.

The error “The driver for Base System Device is not installed” could mean that either Chipset driver or Ricoh driver isn’t installed on the system. Unfortunately, Windows 7 drivers for this system are not available. Your system supports Windows XP and Windows Vista.

Please check the link below for the drivers that would be helpful in this issue:

Thanks and Regards

Hello Rex - I am having the same issue with a Dell Latitude E5500 laptop on which I just installed Windows 7 in lieu of the original XP operating system.  Did you ever solve the issue with your unit?  Thanks for whatever info you can provide.

Hello Neil,

No, I never was able to identify what driver, if any, was missing.  I started having a problem with my printer which started my research.  I saw the message about the missing Base System Device and assumed that was the reason.  I ended up uninstalling and reinstalling the printer software and that resolved my problem.  I haven't had any issues since so I didn't worry about it any more.

SUCCESS

I installed the R201214.exe Ricoh R5C833, that you refer to in http://dell.to/ZjlMBU , on my XPS M1530 witch runs Windows 7,  and it worked fine, even if it is intended for Vista32/64 ... I don't have this annoying obscure “The driver for Base System Device is not installed” anymore !!!

Thank you very much for this hint !  and Dell "be blasted" for not supporting this driver in W7... We loose enough valuable time fighting against W7's whims, all Windows for that matter,  that we don't need another layer of Dell's mercantile goudging.  And since this R201214.exe works fine anyway in W7, I don't understand Dell's logic to not officially support it in W7... besides my previous remark, thank'$ Dell ...
