Dell XPS M1730 Blu-Ray Optial Drive UJ-220
Hi All.
I'd like to replace my broken Blu-Ray UJ-220 drive for my Dell XPS M1730 laptop.
Can someone please answer a couple questions for me?
What exactly is UJ-220? I know that it is the model that allows you to burn blu-ray disks aswell as read them, but I've seen for example Sony Vaio UJ-220 drives on my travels, would these drives fit my M1730 if I replaced the Sony front Bezel with the M1730 one?
Does anyone know if ANY IDE slim drive will fit my M1730? or does it HAVE to be a Panasonic UJ-220?
I'm trying to find a replacement.
Many thanks all,
Philip

UJ-220 is a Panasonic drive. There aren't that many notebook blue-ray writers out - and most of the new ones are SATA, which you can't use - but any standard, 12.7 mm (Slimline) drive will work.

I purchased a new UJ220 drive from an EBay seller in the UK. The postage to Australia was very reasonable. The drive comes without a front bezel, so you will have to use your old one.
