Dell e6500 latitude Broadcom USH w/swipe sensor win7 64 finger print reader sensor driver
Dell e6500 latitude Broadcom USH w/swipe sensor win7 64 finger print reader sensor driver
It seems humanity doesn't produce such a thing. Dell has apparently chosen to include a device for which drivers do not exist. There are legends and tales of a driver buried in some Orwellian bloatware package with the charming and reassuring in aa east German homeland security kind of way, name "control point" but there are as many flavors of this app and installers for it as there are dragons beyond the boundaries of the map and so I cannot find the magical key of device installerness.
I've spent the better part of two weeks hunting for a way to banish that ugly yellow question mark that is no doubt there as a result of corporate IPL greed.
Why Dell would include a device so impossible to install I would like to balk at but it seems this is standard practice for the too big to fail types.
Very rapidly it seems the only difference between dell and mac is the color of the logo.
Perhaps if I submitted to the complimentary biometric profile scan license authorization TSA gamma ray colonoscopy they would direct me to the top secret location of the god forsaken INF files.
Since this is about a the billionth post asking for these very drivers I expect for my request to be ignored in the order in which it arrived.
Have a wonderful day.

I wish I could give you just the driver for the fingerprint sensor by itself without being bundled by other software , I just don't have that. From all that I have read though the driver should be in the DCP Security package. The Win 7 64 bit file is located from the following link.
www.dell.com/.../DriverFileFormats
Further documents back this up regarding DCP Security Manager having the driver.
support.dell.com/.../document
Dell Control Point (DCP) - This is only for some Latitude Laptops. It Controls power management, ambient light sensor, wireless profiles, and security features on laptops. This is located under the Control Point Category on the Drivers and Downloads page. The DCP is split into three separate programs with each one controlling different aspects. It may not be necessary to install all three parts of DCP depending on the system configuration.
Control Point System Manager - Controls power management and ambient light sensor settings
Control Point Security Manager - Controls security features such as the trusted platform module a finger print reader.
Control Point Connection Manager - Controls wireless connection profiles.
According to the doc you shouldn't have to install anything other than DCP Security Manager.
Please let me know if this helps.

Well thank you very much for your reply and attempt, but sadly ATttempting o install these packages produced a number of errors.
Here are the screencaps.

It seems there is a "Drivers package" or some such that I am supposed to install first. (Which caused me to honestly lol at the irony.)

I think you and I both would have just preferred a single file that reads something like Finger Print Reader driver. I am sorry for the confusion. I dug around deeper, and asked some of my coworkers on the client side and was able to find a driver package.
Dell Control Point Security Device Driver Pack
www.dell.com/.../DriverDetails
Uninstall the Security Manager application.
Then install the Security Device Driver Pack. If you get a message while installing the driver pack, stating that Control Vault is out of date, download Dell Control vault from the following link.
http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/555/DriverDetails/DriverFileFormats?DriverId=NGCT1&FileId=2731095350&productCode=latitude-e6500&urlProductCode=False (_http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/555/DriverDetails/DriverFileFormats?DriverId=NGCT1&FileId=2731095350&productCode=latitude-e6500&urlProductCode=False)
Once you have the device driver pack installed check to see if the fingerprint reader is working. You may not need to install the Dell Security Manager at all.
Please let me know if this gets the finger printer reader up and working. If I don't have the info myself I will certainly find someone that does.

I'm having confusing results now. Firstly the linked package is for two different readers, neither of which say broadcom. in any case if i check and install everything the device driver appears to install. It turns into a "control vault device"
But digital persona (the finger print app i used for my last dell laptop) says it cant find a reader, further, the wave embassy trusted suite thing wont install, so i don't know how to test if the reader it working or not.
Never in my years have i encountered such a hassle when dealing with a device installation.
Allow me ot convey my gratitude to you and extreme frustration at dell. I have to wonder who took money unde the table during the selection process of this god awful device and software package.
I feel like i clicked some banner that said free security scan from Nigerian royalty inc.
So what app am i supposed to install to make use of the reader? And for future use now that i have the device installed is there anyway i can harvest the infs or whatever for future users/installs?

I would think either Digital personal or Wave Embassy either one would work. I can either think of two things, that you need to install the DCP Security Manager after all or the fingerprint reader isn't working.
I am sorry for how complicated this is, let me know if DCP security will even install now that you have installed the device driver pack. If it does install please let me know if you are actually able to use the finger print reader.

It installed, but enrollment of a print failed. i also uninstalled digital persona on the off chance of some kind of conflict.
I love these useless error messages. Like tech support is just magically going to know what caused this random vague filler catch all message lol

Yeah the message isn't of great help. Assuming that the correct drivers are installed then this looks like a defective fingerprint reader. Again I apologize for all the confusion regarding this. If you would like for me to research service options shoot me a private message with your name and the service tag of the notebook and I will be happy to take a look.

I may have a fix for you, though I have not been able to activate the fingerprint reader. I am running Win7 Ultimate x64 SP1 on the same Dell Latitude E6500 notebook. The driver you need to download is referenced as VP397. Located here: http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/19/driverdetails?driverid=V3P97
I have yet to figure out how to get the fingerprint reader working, but the device is now recognized and shows 'working properly.
Here's some additional documentation that I found, but have not yet attempted to install. It appears to be for Vista. I've found that some of the Vista apps and drivers work fine with Win7. http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/19/driverdetails?driverid=6FKMX
Good Luck!

If you go to Dell.com>Drivers and downloads>type in your computers Service tag number> E6500 series go to Security> then click on Dell ControlVault Windows Biometric Framework Integrated Driver - DELL_CONTROLVAULT-WINDOWS-BI_A0_R308326.exe
Once this unzips an creates a folder for the files, open up the USH64 folder then scroll down til you see the CVHCI64 and double click on it. Then follow the install instructions. You now have the Broadcom USHw/ swipe sensor driver on your Win7 machine.
Hope this helps.
