Dell studio 1536

Ok I recently acquired a dell studio 1536,it's plastic cover around the hinges and wifi/power button are somewhat broke but flops but the hinges work,it's been working good for a few days and I put a good hd in it but after it installed updates I shut it down and now it won't come on,could the broke plastic pieces covering the hinges be making it think it's closed when it's not cause it was working great,I was about to buy the stuff to fix it up but idk now,can anybody help
