I have had my xps m1330 for 2 years now, had to have the motherboard replaced twice to a grapichs problem. The last time this was done 13/02/2009 the tech guy didn't even put the laptop back together properly, and when he had gone i tried to switch the laptop on only to find it switch off straight away?
I was confused, so i checked if it was out of battery which it wasn't? Rang Dell and after a long chat was told that the tech guy maynot have replaced the fan correctly and the issue would be resloved that day?
Well its 17/02/2009 and i had no contact, so i rang them only to be told that nothing had been agranged and i would have to pay in excess of £70 for a new heat shrink and a new motherboard? I said this is not on as it was working with just the graphic issues before the tech came and tried to explain that the system may not have been put back together properly by there guy, but this was like talking to a brick wall.
So now after alot of complaning there is a tech coming on 19/02/2009 to change the motherboard, which in my oppion is still working but i can not tell as i am still left with a laptop which will not turn on and when it does just powers down after about 5 mintues?
If any one has anything i can try could you let me know thanks
PS i have cleaned the fan with a compressed air can which i do regularly anyway, and the last time i switched the laptop on it was running Bois a15 i think.
That does sound like a Motherboard issue..it's possible the tech failed to install it correctly when he was putting the laptop back together. Did you end up getting this resolved?
I got the same model as what you have XPS M1330, Intel Core 2 Duo T8300(2.4GHz, 800Mhz, 3M L2 Cache) with 128MB NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GS.
Last March I started experiencing some problems with my LCD screen. I started to show some lines or blackout and then there's a part with distorted . So I chatted with the Technical Support since I did my troubleshooting like using an external monitor, updating the Bios, reinstall the drivers for the video but i failed. They decided to replace the LCD screen which will be done by their Techs.
The first Tech who serviced my laptop really took good care on removing and installing the LCD though he failed to fix it but he did some logical troubleshooting on inter-changing the LCD with a new tapewire of the LCD or the other way around but it still has the problem. The tech called the Technical Support hotline again and it was advise that they will send a new LCD and its wire again plus a new motherboard.
After two days, a different Tech came and replaced the LCD and motherboard. It was fixed but this guy is kinda clumsy removing and installing the parts.
Recently I'm experiencing overheating with my laptop though using a laptop cooling pad helps but I guess its not normal still coz I have an office laptop, a HP Compaq nc6400 and sometime I keep it running 24 X 7 but it does not overheat. The Dell technical support will send a new motherboard and heatsink as well. This will be done on Monday I hope it will be fixed.
I have an xps m1330 with the nvidia 8400 GPU, and i have have been toiling with the same issues for over two years now. I've had Dell replace my motherboard twice now. I am also running the latest BIOS software (15, i think), but neither of those 'solutions' helped. I bought a USB powered cooling HUB and that has fixed the issue. Had I known about these problems beforehand I would NEVER have bought this machine. Sure my machine works fine now and doesn't overheat, but I am utilizing it more like a desktop than as a laptop. Oh well, live and learn!
