Display stays dark after opening laptop again. Latitude D520, WinXP
Hi community,
i bought a used Latitude D520.
I've installed XP SP3 with all fixes
My problem is: If the laptop is running and a close the lid, the display stays dark when i open it again.
I can see, that the machine is still running. HDD activity is shown and if i press e.g. ALT+F4 the program is going to close.
If i had an document open i can still write to it and save it with CTRL+S. Everythink works fine - except i can't see it.
Currently the only soulution is to reboot the machine.
Does anybody has any idea how to fix this?

When this has happen to me, all I had to do was press the power button and it would wake up from hibernation. Have you checked your Windows power settings for when you close the laptop?

Windows Standby has issues when returning to the active state. The machine is still running in a low power mode.
For instance active network connections (WIFI, LAN, BT) can cause a deadlock when returning from standby mode.
Better to use hibernation mode when the disk allows space for the hibernation file to be written.
