Does Kingston HyperX Memory work on Dell Vostro 1700??

Hello. I have a Dell Vostro 1700, Intel Core2Duo T7700 2.4 ghz, GeForce 8600M GT, 2gb ram

My memory is sodimm, 200 pin 667 ddr2, cl5

Does Kingston HyperX sodimm ddr2 667 cl4 work on  dell laptops? (Vostro 1700)

I ask because the store doesn't change my memory once i buy it

ps. sorry for my bad english. i am from Romania

It will, but you can consider getting a cheaper set because the HyperX sets are the performance line with better timings; since the Dell BIOS won't let you change timings anyway you can probably save $20 or so with a Value set.

even if i buy a low latency memory, the BIOS will set it at CL5? any memory will work at cl5?

the ideea was to gain performance.

if there is no way i can boost my performance i will buy a CL5 memory set. i wish cl4..

ps. does the upgrade from 2gb fo 4gb decrease my boot time?

The BIOS will generally set the timings to the settings in the SPD, which is normally 5-5-5-15 even for sets rated faster (this is to ensure that the system does boot up).

If you have very little RAM then increasing RAM will decrease boot time, but since you have 2GB already it probably won't. Your bottleneck is your hard disk.

hello again. my hard disks are two 7200rpm SATAII drives.

i have installed Kingston HyperX memory

cpu-z says that my timings are: 4,4,4,12

the SPD is: 4,4,4,12

so, after all, this memory really works with Dell laptops.

one more thing i have found out, a guy installed 6gb of ram on a Dell laptop.

maybe the BIOS is not so limited...

ps. excuse my bad english
