Does using an external monitor have an influence on the video driver/processor required?
I'm about to buy a new laptop and am thinking about getting 15.6 screen and attaching an external monitor for better readability. Does using an external monitor have any influence on the video driver or processor I need? The machine will just be used for business applications, not for playing games.

No. All laptops will drive most any monitor. Just make sure the laptop and monitor have the same video connections, which shouldn't be a problem. There are many good 23”+ HD monitors available at good prices.
