E5400 bios update

Dear all,

My Dell E5400's battery is not charging due to some reason.

I did a driver scan through Dell website and found an update E5400A17.exe.

Downloaded it as it seems that auto update is not working.

But, even when I run it manually, it says, that this bios update could not be run as there is 10% of battery.

I have connected my Dell laptop to a UPS. So I'm safe even on a power failure.

Could someone help me in overcoming this.

Regards,

You will be unable to update the BIOS unless your battery is charged above 10 %. This is a fail safe to prevent a failed BIOS update. The only way to get the update is to replace the battery.

If the AC adapter is not recognized, the laptop goes into a low power state (using power as little as possible - CPU down, RAM down ...) and it does not charge the battery.

Check in BIOS if the AC adapter is recognized. If it's not, you gonna need a compatible one.

Dell AC adapters have 3 contacts, +, - and the center pin is used to broadcast an ID which identifies the adapter. You can find on ebay either compatible AC adapters or chips (if you're a tinkering guy).

Also, if is the laptop's original battery, it might be near dead. If you see a blinking orange LED (I think, or similar), then your battery might be done, and you need a new one..
