E7440 strange new fan noise

I've had my E7440 laptop for several years now and it has developed this strange new fan noise (click to hear below). Fan appears to be blowing and stopping at a regular interval. Looking for an expert opinion on whether the fan needs to be replaced. Thanks

Thanks for the reply. After taking out and cleaning the fan, it appears to be working fine again.

Hi ALEXRAU,

It sounds like the fan blades are not spinning in free motion. I would suspect dust particles.

Download the service manual here - http://dell.to/2n4u91A - and clean the air vents and fan assembly with a small vacuum cleaner or a can of compressed air. If the system overheats, then replace the thermal grease on the heatsink.

Update the BIOS from the same site and check.

If the issue is unresolved, replace the fan assembly.

You could order the parts here - http://bit.ly/2o3WA0y

Also, please click my DELL-username and write me a private message with the service tag and your contact details(Name and Email) for case records.

Let us know if you have any other queries.
