F12 volume key

Is there a way to set the F11 and F12 volume keys to work without hitting the function key as well?

This is on a brand new Dell Inspiron 17R special edition running windows 8

Within windows press + X -> To open mobility centre. There you can change the Fn key behaviour. Change Multimedia Key to Fn Key Behaviour. This is an alternate method

Thanks! That was very easy not quite as frightening to a regular user as going into the BIOS screen

Hi

In case you want to use only F11 and F12 key without the combination with FN key to increase or decrease the volume, the setting has to be changed in the BIOS screen.

Restart the system and at the Dell logo tap the F2 key every two seconds. In the setup screen click on ‘Advanced’ and highlight ‘Function key Behavior’ and from the pop-up box change from Function key to Multimedia key. Press F10 to save and exit.
