Hello. . .
I use the fingerprint reader to login to my Latitude E5550 every time. However, I was unable to do so after the latest Windows 10 update (version 1607).
Any suggestions for how to get around this? It's not the end of the world, but I *really* like using the fingerprint reader (I paid extra for) to login. If I can provide additional helpful information, please let me know.
I have a similar problem with my Vostro 3550 since I installed windows 10. The driver shows in the device manager as working properly. The Dell website says get their security software from their website as it has replaced the Validity sensor software previously used. Unless I am being unusually thick, this software is nowhere to be found. I have used the Dell automatic detect my machine app and no joy. Help please anyone?
Hi ADAMUP / Twonko,
As of recent, we have received few cases with driver related issues after Win 10 Anniversary updates. Whilst we are working on this, we do not have a said ETA update release.
At this point, we suggest you to downgrade the Win 10 Anniversary Update build. See these links on how to:
There are few Microsoft related threads that suggest by Mid September there should be an update and that might possibly fix these issues. The above links also suggest on how to temporarily disable the Win10 Anniversary Upgrade.
Also, please click my DELL-username and write me a private conversation with the service tag and your contact details(Name and Email) for case records.

Hello. I was unable to downgrade. This is still an issue. Is there any effort on Dell's part to fix this problem?
I have no wish to downgrade and neither should I just to fix an issue not of my own making. I assume that even though the driver is installed and working, the reader still needs software to call the driver. The Validity software was what used to do the job and is no longer available. The reply from DELL-Rishi is disappointing and does Dell no favours.
I also have the same issue since upgrading to 1607. I have a Latitude E6530. After the upgrade, the fingerprint sensor only works intermittently
Hi all - I too am feeling the pain. e7250 running win10 (clean install) and I have no functional fingerprint reader. 3mnths to code a fix, makes one wonder what bigger issues Dell are dealing with.
Don't know if this will work for all who've posted here, but yesterday (12/7/2016) I noticed a new version of security tools published for the Latitude E5550. So, I downloaded and installed the following, and my fingerprint reader works again!
- Dell ControlVault Firmware (ControlVault_Setup_HTF2M_184.108.40.206_A41_ZPE.exe)
- Dell ControlVault Driver (Security_Driver_HGX2G_WN64_220.127.116.11_A20.EXE)
- Dell Data Protection | Security Tools (STInstaller-18.104.22.168.zip)
It was suggested to me that I didn't need the last one in the list, but I did install it so I'm posting exactly what I installed. Again, this is for a Latitude E5550 and may not apply to you, but it may indicate that new drivers/software have been released for your model as well. You'll want to go to the following link and enter your Service Tag number: http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/19/
Here's hoping this helps someone else. Cheers!
