I had this problem for quite some time, USB HDDs were not recognised properly but usually after poking and disconnecting, it was OK.
Recently, no HDD is recognised (in Windows Explorer it says "Local Disc" but when you dounble click on it, I get "Disc is corrupted or unreadable".
I read somewhere that this is a problem with USB drivers, but I don't know how to check this or update the drivers.
