Hi DELL-RAVI BC,

It's a good report.

Just now, E5510 BIOS update is success.

Updating A07 to A10 can be done using bootable USB key created by NautilusA41_ZPE.

And  updating A10 to A16 is done under win-7 environment.

The above was just a quick report for you.

Hi all,

I am successful in Win7-64bit installation.

The key of succeed may be BIOS update.

After BIOS updating to A16, installation of windows7 64bit can be done with no trouble.

Thank you for your advise.

Hi maru_3,

Please reinstall the operating system on your system. I would suggest you to update the BIOS on the system first and then download the necessary drivers for your system. Please enter your service tag # on the link below, select the OS, then download the necessary drivers listed under appropriate section onto the system and install it.

http://dell.to/18r60nI

Refer to the link below to install drivers in correct order for issue resolution.

http://dell.to/18LnbPL

Please let me know if this helps.

Run full F12 system diagnostics:

It sounds like your may have a failing hard drive or something.

If diagnostics passes then securely wipe your hard drive with DBAN before reinstallation to ensure that your problems not due to Malware on the drive:

Hi RAVI-san,

Thank you for your quick response.

1.  BIOS update

I would like to do so if possible.
But I can't do it.

Please refer to;
 http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/software-os/f/3524/t/19590428.aspx

If you have any advice regarding to BIOS update, please teach me.

2.  drivers selection and installation order.

Please review original thread.
"1st trial: Latest driver installation"
All drivers for 1st trial were downloaded from dell Japan download site selected by TAG No. and OS(win7-64bit).
For my confirmation, I visited Us download site and select/check drivers for my E5510.
As a result,  selected drivers in US dell site are same as I downloaded from Dell Japan site for trial-1 installation.

Driver Installation order is as indicated in the Dell Japan document titled "Latitude E5410/E5510 Windows 7 driver re-installation guide 233492_ja"
I recognize that driver installation order instructed in above document is basically same way  as specified below link.

http://dell.to/18LnbPL

I will re-try clean installation win-7 64bit and drivers in this week end.

In this trial, Installation order will be some, but drivers will be changed.

Next week, I will report the result.
Please check the result next week.

Hi, natakuc4

Thank you for your quick response.

Today, I tried to install win-7 64bit and drivers.
Some drivers are changed from 2nd trial based on your advice.
But installation failed.

The progress of installation is as follows.

A. Win-7 64bit installation : success

B. Driver installation

1.  DELL SYSTEM SOFTWARE : A03_R282538.exe (your recommendation)    pass
2. INTEL CHIPSET SOFTWARE INSTALLATION UTILYTY: R257446 Rev.A02
Your recommendation was to get direct from the Intel Download Centre.
Intel download center scan my E5510, and select Intel chipset software installation utility version 9.4.0.1017.
Because of link rot, I could not search this driver in Intel site.  So I installed R257446 Rev.A02.

3. RICOH R5U24X Rev.A04 :R263985 Rev.A04
4. Intel AMT-HECI Rev.A00 :R262412 REv.A00
5. IDT 92HDXXX-HD-AUDIO Rev.A14 :R260701 Rev.A14
6. Intel QM57/QS57 NB Gfx-Intel GMA HD Rev.A01: R260904 Rev.A01
Though your recommendation was to get latest driver directly from Intel DL center, I installed from resource media.
The reason is,
I accessed Intel download center to get latest driver.
But I got a following message instead of latest driver.
*****
Graphics Driver
Product Detected  IntelR HD Graphics
Current Driver Installed  8.15.10.2057
A customized computer manufacturer driver is installed on your computer.
The Intel Driver Update Utility is not able to update the driver.
Installing a generic Intel driver instead of the customized computer
manufacturer driver may cause technical issues. Contact your computer
manufacturer for the latest driver for your computer.
******

7. BROADCOM 57XX GIGABIT CONTROLLER Rev.A02: R260904 Rev.A02

8. Intel Intel(R) WiFi Link 6200: Wireless_16.11.0_s64.exe
Based on your advice, I installed latest driver downloaded from Intel DL center.
Aster system restarting, I open device manager window and I find exclamation mark on Brodcom_NetXtream_57XX_GIGABIT_controller,WAN_MINI_PORT(IKEv2), (IP), (IPv6), (L2TP), (PPPOE), (SSTP), etc.

I restarted E5510, but E5510 failed to start and shift to repair installation mode.
Installation failed.

Run full F12 system diagnostics:
Yes, I did it. The result of system diagnostics is "No problems have been found"

Hard disk of this system is new item bought for win7-64bit installation. So, possibility of malware is less.
To ensure certainty of re-installation, I start security wipe hard drive with DBAN. just now
After finishing DBAN, I will re-try installation.

Additional information "Inability of BIOS update" of this E5510, please refer to;

http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/software-os/f/3524/t/19590428.aspx

Please advise me how to change installation procedure, driver to be used and so on.

Can you reinstall Windows? This time install no drivers and restart the system several times. Do you still get a crash? If its successful reattempt updating the BIOS.

Regarding the BIOS update, try getting the update directly from here and only install if the system seems stable after the restarts:

http://ftp.dell.com/published/Pages/latitude-e5510.html

If the system is unstable, install Windows 7 32 Bit and check if its stable (again without drivers) and then update the BIOS to the latest version. Then reattempt Windows 7 64 Bit installation.

I can install win-7 64bit successfully.

After Win-7 64bit installation (without installation drivers),  I try Updating the BIOS underon Win-7 environment.

But updating the BIOS failed.

Yes, I got the BIOS as indicated above.

If the system is unstable, install Windows 7 32 Bit and check if its stable (again without drivers) and then update the BIOS to the latest version. Then reattempt Windows 7 64 Bit installation.

I installed win-7 32bit, and tried Updating the BIOS under Win-7 32bit environment(without driver installation) by double-clicking E5501A10.exe on desktop. But nothing occur, BIOS version still A07. BIOS updating aborted.

Is there any possibility that Inability of BIOS updating is course of win-7 64bit installation failure?

If the answer is no, BIOS updating may be cancelled.

The BIOS Update needs elevated administrator privileges.

Right click the BIOS Update and selecting run as administrator, see here:

Hi maru_3,

The BIOS update log indicates that the AC adapter is not connected to the system and the battery charge is low. The preconditions to update the BIOS on Dell computer are to connect the AC adapter to the system and the battery charge should be more than 20%.

Hi DELL-RAVI BC,

Thank you for your response.

I understand the meaning of BIOS log.

But, these alert were last year or before. My attempt of BIOS update was done in this month.  At this time,  AC adopter was connected and battery was full.

I think these alert have nothing to do with the inability BIOS update in question.

Hi maru_3,

Sorry for the delayed response. We will have to check the status of the adapter in BIOS; if the adapter is not detected properly the system will continue to receive power but will not charge the battery. Please follow the steps mentioned below to check if the adapter is detected properly.

1. Start the computer by pressing the power button
2. Press the F2 key 2-3 times
3. You will now be on the BIOS screen
4. Under the Main Tab look for the option that says AC Adapter Type
5. If the Adapter Type says Unknown or None with the adapter plugged in.
6. Reconnect the adapter to the machine and if the status now shows as Unknown then the AC Adapter needs to be replaced.

Hi DELL-RAVI BC,

I checked the status of the  AC adapter in BIOS.

Settings>General>Battery  information  show;

Battery health: Normal

AC Adapter = 90W

It seemed that AC adapter of my E5510 is detected properly.
