Headset doesn't work for Inspiron 3531
I just got the Dell Inspiron 3531 about 3 days ago and I want to use a headset for it but it only has 1 headphone/microphone port, my headset has 2. I tried plugging either cord into it but it only works as headphones, the microphone won't work. Do I have to get a splitter for both functions to work? Please help!

Your laptop has a combo headset jack. It is meant for the type of phone headset in which the mic and the headphones are both combined into a single TRRS (4 segmented) plug, like either one of these plugs. (Sorry but i don't have a picture of a single TRRS plug).
There is an adapter called the Headset Buddy that combines 2 TRS (3 segments) plugs into a single TRRS plug. However we have gotten very mixed reports about it working.
So your options are to get an adapter, get a phone headset, get a usb headset, or get a usb audio jack. The usb jacks costs about $5 and you can use your current headset with it.
