Help! Dell XPS just reset settings when booting up

This morning I turned on my Dell XPS 14z laptop and it no longer has any of my programs, saved data, pictures. It appears that it performed a factor reset on its own. Is there a way to recover all my data? And does anyone know why this happened? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks,

Hi Osprey,

Thanks for the immediate help.  I have just taken the laptop to a computer repair guy and he identified the problem.  There appears to be a virus on the computer that makes it login as a temporary user, even when clearly logging in as yourself.  To unaware people like me, it then looks like everything has been removed and programs uninstalled.  He found my data quite easily, and will now remove the virus and make a new profile.

As they are working on it now, this post is now  resolved.

Thanks, Dan

Hi Danielrodger,

I'm moving your thread to the laptop forum for more help.

Seems unlikely that this would have happened but let's try to figure this out. Please provide the operating system of your laptop.
