High temperature on Dell Studio 1555

I got a Dell Studio 1555 two weeks ago. Since the beginning I notice that the touchpad gets hot after a while (maybe between an hour or two). After two hours, it's so hot that is close to make a burn.

Of course it's not the touchpad, but it's something that is JUST below.

I removed the lid and I can say for sure that it's not the HD (which is beside). Also I think it's hotter on the surface (touchpad) than on the back.

I tried the acpi and lm-sensors command (on Ubuntu 9.10), results below:

~$ acpi -t
Thermal 0: ok, 0.0 degrees C
Thermal 1: ok, 47.0 degrees C
Thermal 2: ok, 54.0 degrees C

~$ sensors
acpitz-virtual-0
Adapter: Virtual device
temp1: +54.0°C (crit = +100.0°C)
temp2: +46.0°C (crit = +100.0°C)
temp3: +0.0°C (crit = +100.0°C)

coretemp-isa-0000
Adapter: ISA adapter
Core 0: +51.0°C (high = +105.0°C, crit = +105.0°C)

coretemp-isa-0001
Adapter: ISA adapter
Core 1: +52.0°C (high = +105.0°C, crit = +105.0°C)

Anyone can help me to diagnose the problem or tell me if have a similar experience?

PS.- I can not tell if happens on Windows too, cause I deleted it as soon as I got the computer.

These temps are not too high. Download a software program to display all the temps, like i8kfangui and use this to monitor temps as you use the laptop.

I guess they aren't, the problem is that the touchpad is hot, so I guess the problem doesn't have to do with the CPUs or maybe that's normal on a Dell Studio 1555.

A quick search on google told me that i8kfangui is a Windows app, right? Do you know something that could run on GNU/Linux?

I had the same problem when I used Linux on my Studio 1555, there is no equal problem if you are using windows, but well... lets say I like Linux :)

I played and messed around a bit with Laptop-mode and somehow it worked. Since I am using a SSD now, i don't have any thermal problems.

PS: If you encounter any problems with the media-keys, like cannot change the backlight-brightness, then you should use the 'noapic' parameter when booting the kernel.

I tried the i8kfangui on my Dell Studio 1555 and the mouse immediately froze up and would move very irratically until I uninstalled the program.  Any suggestions on how to make it work?  I have it on my my Latitude 810 and love it, but can't get it to work on my Studio.  My BIOS is the latest verion available from Dell already.

If you look on this web page http://www.diefer.de/i8kfan/ it was not developed or approved for the Studio series notebooks.

That program hasn't been updated since Feb 2007
