Horizontal lines !!!!

While switching from maybe AOL to the Internet Explorer, my Dell Inspiron E1505 hangs up and I get horizontal lines covering the entire screen !!!  Nothing will clear it, so I have to shut down and reboot.  This has happened several times.  Any suggestions.  The laptop is just one year old nad not used every day.  Thanks.
