How To Install A Graphics Card In Dell Inspiron 15 3521

Hello, some days before I brought A new laptop Which is a Dell Inspiron 15R 3521. Its specs are all good except its GPU which is A Intel HD 3000 Graphics. I like to play games and other HD Videos but when I try so the whole computer becomes slow and I can see some Graphics Corruption on the screen. So I want to get rid of this HD 3000 and install A NVIDIA Geforce GT 630M 2GB GDDR3 GPU.

So my question is that is there any way so that I can Replace my HD 3000 and install a GT 630M? If yes how?

Please Help Me, Thank You..... :)

Hi Narayan Chatterjee,

Dell Inspiron 15R 3521 is shipped with following 'Graphics Cards':

  • Intel HD Graphics 4000.
  • AMD Radeon HD 7670M.
  • AMD Radeon HD 8730M.

The 'Graphics Card' of this system is embedded on the motherboard. If you want to upgrade it, an entire motherboard swap is required along with few minor components like heat sink, thermal pad, etc.

You can contact the Dell Sales team in your region and order a replacement motherboard with the upgraded graphics card. You can refer to the manual from the link http://bit.ly/YIjAT3 for the guidelines on replacing the components on the system.

Note: Please follow the safety instructions on the manual before replacing any component.

If you are in the USA, you may contact our Spare Parts and Accessories dept on 1-800-357-3355. Please refer to the link for more information http://dell.to/YYkrcU. If you are in a different region, go to http://dell.to/QjjZDA select the country/region from the top, scroll down and click on 'Contact Dell Sales' to get the contact information.

OK that I understand but can you tell me why my Dell Inspiron 15 3521 has a Intel HD 3000. According to Dell.com I should have a Intel HD 4000 but in dxdiag it is shown as hd 3000 and even in device manager. Is my system alright? because the Drivers that I have got with my laptop, It had the Display Driver with Intel HD 4000 support. So why is my device manager showing it as HD 3000?

Please Help..............

Thanks...........

The Intel GPU is part of the central processor - which you have depends on which processor you chose at purchase.

This is a very low-end model - if it has a second-generation Intel Core CPU, it'll be 3000 graphics - the 4000 GPU comes in the third-generation Core models.

All of these use U-type CPUs, which are hard soldered to the system board.  Changing the processor means replacing the entire system board - which is likely to be cost-prohibitive.  It will also void any warranty remaining on the system.
