I have an Inspiron 9400

Have loved. The laptop display went black. I plugged into my extern

l Dell 22" monitor which works fine. I ran all of the diagnostics and nothing ... laptop display still black. I order a new 17" monitor and ensured that the models numbers were correct. I powered down and gently reinstalled the new display. It fit like a glove. I still have a black screen and have tried F8 and even trying to reach the safe mode. The external still works just fine. Any clues?

Is the inverter a board at the bottom of the screen? I got this replacement from Dell. If it's not the inverter and it's the motherboard, I'm pretty much out of luck, right?

Did you change the inverter with the screen?  If not, the inverter was probably the source of the problem.

If you DID change the inverter and know the new one is good, then it was the mainboard that was the source of the problem.

The inverter was attached to the replacement LCD panel.   Rats, it's the motherboard and there's nothing that I can do? This shows it:
