Increase Ram from 1.5 GB to 4 GB? Need advise
Hi Dell Friends, I have inspiron 1520, i have upgraded my ram to 1.5 GB DDR2 from 1 GB, i wanted to increase it to 4GB, Should i have 2 GB ddR2 sticks or just 1 stick of 4GB RAM. please advise.
System configuration is Intel Core 2 Duo CPU T5250 1.5 GHZ,32 bit OS..
Also windows vista home premium makes the system slow,what do you advise 4 GM RAM with Windows Vista Home premium should be OK or should i go for Windows 7 - 32bit or Windows XP. I am using Vista on Lenovo awesome..butter smooth..

The official max for RAM on this system is 2G - 2X1G modules. Some have reported 2X2 will work - however, with or without 64-bit Windows, you won't see more than 3.2 G from this system. The chipset does not support memory remapping so you will not see all 4G of RAM.

The Inspiron 1520 has 4 GB maximum listed on Crucial. It is recommended you get that part:

Crucial RAM in general works better with Dell systems than other manufacturers RAM.
Vista will run pretty awfully on 1-1.5 GB of RAM but better on 3-4 GB.
Windows 7 will always run better than Windows Vista so is recommended. As your processor the T5250 has a 64 bit instruction set then you are best to install Windows 7 64 bit. You may only get 3.25 GB of RAM usable as mentioned above but it is a lot better than 1.5 GB of RAM.
Because Dell don't support this OS on this model there are no official drivers, fortunately I have created a list on unofficial drivers which you may find here:

If you are considering upgrading hardware and your OS its probably a good time to consider purchase of a Solid State Drive, this will also significantly speed up your system and can likewise be found in the Crucial link. I would say 128 GB is the minimum size of drive you should consider. 256 GB is more comfortable but pricier.
