Inspiron 14z WiFi drops signal

I bought an Inspiron 14z about 2 months ago. Mine has a Dell WiFi card, not an Intel one. I was aware that early versions of the model had WiFi connectivity issues, but mine had none for 2 months.

Now, all of the sudden, my laptop is dropping WiFi connections all over the place. It's worse the farther I get from the router, but it even happens close to the router. It is dropping signals in rooms where it previously connected just fine, and it is dropping signals when other laptops and even phones are connecting just fine.

What happens is that it will connect and show maximum or almost maximum bars. It will appear to hold a signal, but this will go out after just a few minutes, returning a few minutes later. Obviously, you can't surf the web that way.

It's very frustrating.

I've reinstalled drivers from Dell, restarted my computer and the router multiple times, and even reset all the settings to my router. The router is not the problem.

Anyone have any solutions?

Hi dwharrington,

Please paste the screen shot of ‘Device Manager’ with ‘Network Adapters’ expended and also the screenshot of wireless card properties. You may follow the steps below:

  • Press ‘Windows’ key + R on ‘Desktop’ screen
  • Type ‘devmgmt.msc’ in run box and press ‘Enter’
  • Click > sign next to ‘Network adapters’
  • Right click on wireless card.
  • Click ‘Properties’
  • Click ‘Advanced’

Paste the screenshot of advanced wireless properties.

Keep me posted with the information. I will be glad to assist further.

Thanks & Regards

Re: Inspiron 14z WiFi drops signal

Check the settings related to the channel to be ensure that the setting are fine .

Then after check the Wireless card drivers and if they are already up to date call DELL as it may be a concern due to hardware failure but please be ensure that your computer Power Management was not on Power Saver . Change that to the Highest Performance and please connect the A/c adapter too while doing all these steps .

Please reply if faces any further issues

Re: Inspiron 14z WiFi drops signal

Hi Dell-Amogh G,

Thanks. Rather than a screen shot, here are are the details from Advanced.

802.11b Premable = Long and Short

802.11n Bandwidth = 20MHz/40MHz Auto

Network Address = Not Present

Receive Buffers = 256

Scan Valid Interval = 60

Transmit Buffers = 512

I hope there's something in there to help, as this is very frustrating. I appreciate it.

RE: Inspiron 14z WiFi drops signal

Are these Win 7 Settings or Win 8 only?

What I don't get is i lose network connection even with ethernet cable attached -, WIFI issues seems to interfere with all network connection issues. I have to reboot &  auto resolve connection issues three to five times before it allows connection,

this can simply happen after a short  hibernartion
