Inspiron 15 (3542) max ram support
I have bought A dell inspiron 15 3542 . it has 4 GB of ram, but I want to install an 8 GB ram. I am using windows 8.1 64 bit .
The question is if I install a 8 gb ram will it work? I mean will at least 7 GB will remain usable? currently out of 4GB 3.91 is usable which I believe is normal.

Yes, though there is only one memory socket - so you must replace the 4G with an 8. You MUST use DDR3L memory (DDR3 1.5V will not work).

Hi josehill,
The maximum memory supported on Dell Inspiron 3542/3543 is 8GB DDR3L with clock speed of 1600 MHz.
