Inspiron 1520 VGA HDTV Question

I have a Dell Inspiron 1520 Laptop and I want to output the video and audio to my Sharp Aquos 42 Inch 1080p HDTV. I have two questions. One, can 1520's output to HDTVs and two, although my laptop has a VGA port, my TV doesn't. Would I be able to use a VGA to HDMI adapter, or will that not work?

Here's an example of what I mean. http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=101&cp_id=10114&cs_id=1011402&p_id=5035&seq=1&format=2. Of course, I would want something cheaper than that, but I would want to know if my laptop would actually output to my HDTV before I make a purchase. Has anyone used one of these?

Your Inspiron 1520 is not capable of outputing to a 1080p HDTV using a simple adapter. You need a VGA to HDMI converter such as the one HERE. The MonoPrice converter at your link is not suitable, the reason being that it converts HDMI to VGA but cannot convert VGA to HDMI.
