Inspiron 1520 locking up.

Hi folks,

This is a problem with my daughters Inspiron 1520,

It started locking up, and only holding in the power button would shut it down,

I read up on the forum and found that overheating was the most likely culprit.

  1. I removed the fan
  2. And cooling assembly
  3. Removed the fluff that had accumulated in the vents
  4. Re sealed the CPU heat sink with new paste.
  5. Re assembled the laptop
  6. fitted a new larger hard drive
  7. Installed windows

The system worked for 5 or so hours then I passed it back to my daughter in good working order.

Today she called me and told me it had started locking up again.

Can anyone help me out with any advice?

I ran the full barrage of Dell System Diagnostics and it passed them all.

Any help appreciated.

Re: Inspiron 1520 locking up.

I have been having the same problem with my new XPS 8300. This started happening the same day that I unpacked it out of the shipping box at the end of April/beginning of May (can't remember when I actually received the box.. After hours on the phone and trying different solutions I gave up and requested a replacement desktop. Still waiting for it to be shipped.
