Inspiron 1525 Ugrade Celeron 1.86 processor to Core 2 duo T6400 HELP!

I have:

Inspiron 1525
Intel(R) Celeron(R) CPU 540 @ 1.86GHz
2.00 GB RAM
Mobile Intel(R) 965 Express Chipset Family - WDDM 1.1

I bought a Core 2 Duo T6400 having been told I should have no problems with the upgrade. I replaced the chip and have gotten it to almost fully boot to windows once though mostly it just lights up 2 lights (power and num. lock) but it freezes there. please help

Also i have changed back to the old chip. They both aeem to have the same amount of thermal paste.

You can only use Specific Core 2 duo Mobile Processors.

Freezing indicates that the thermal grease is not installed correctly and the cpu is overheating.

But it says it is a "mobile core dual T6400 OEM".

T6400 is not on the list I have above.  Updating the bios to the current version may or may not help.

The list is not authoritative nor is it dell validated. Its based on experience.

I updated the bios, it did not help.

Could be that it wants DDR2 800 instead of DDR2 667 Ram also.

It would seem so :( I even had it running the OEM diagnostic CD and it worked the entire time and passed all tests. It just doesnt like to boot to windows when its not in the 2 light only phase that is.

hi

who told you that it is COMPATIBLE? It is not and people above seem to not to understand some things..sorry guys.

These CPU's are NOT comaptible indeed.why?

you need a MEROM based CPU with socket P, not Penryn CPU with socket P which is t6400..simply you can buy these ones:

t5xxx, t7xxx, with socket P not M again..

check this:

en.wikipedia.org/.../Merom_(microprocessor)

and that

en.wikipedia.org/.../List_of_Intel_Core_2_microprocessors

and it does not matter if you have 800 or 667 memory, both of these should work, for instance dell xps m1330 when you put 800 memory it will work as 667 freq only.

all the best mate.

yes, T5870 AND T5850 will fit :) Simply check the prices of the fastest CPUs on Ebay suitable for your lappy and buy the best and the cheapest one, for example: T7500, T7700, T7300 because these CPUs have 4mb memory in, or buy what you want to buy at affordable price:) all the best.
