Inspiron 1545 network controller driver WILL NOT INSTALL

Someone did a reformat for me to try to fix an issue after installing me a new hard drive and installing windows.  They said they were having problems getting the drivers for my network controller and I have had nothing but troubles also. I have downloaded the driver but cannot find it afterward to install it. I downloaded the dell download manager and can't find it either and nothing seems to work to fix it. The instructions to use the download mgr don't help because nothing happens the way it is supposed to and nothing is where it is supposed to be and I am at a loss.  I am ready to throw this thing in the dump. If ANYONE has ANY suggestions I would love to hear them.

Sounds like you are having issues with Drivers and Downloads. Use the Dell FTP Website which has direct links and hence less errors:

http://ftp.dell.com/published/Pages/inspiron-1545.html

Review the notes here and also check the drivers install correctly (like the video at the bottom):

http://dellwindowsreinstallationguide.com/downloading-drivers-checking-hardware-ids-and-downloading-and-installing-dell-system-drivers-in-the-correct-order/driver-installation/

Also review the hardware IDs to identify variants:

http://dellwindowsreinstallationguide.com/downloading-drivers-checking-hardware-ids-and-downloading-and-installing-dell-system-drivers-in-the-correct-order/checking-hardware-ids-in-the-device-manager/

If you have any issues tell me the hardware IDs and I will tell you precisely what you need to install.

Thanks for the info although not one thing made sense and nothing that i downloaded has installed or helped or made one bit of difference with a <ADMIN NOTE: Profanity removed as per TOU> thing other than telling me that i don't have any memory so nothing can work.  I am done with this piece of <ADMIN NOTE: Substitute character removed as per TOU> .  It's going in the <ADMIN NOTE: Profanity removed as per TOU> dumpster.  I can't get any help without paying enough to buy a new cpu. Screw this.

If you get a message you don't have enough memory when trying to install the drivers. Its likely the OS has been installed on the wrong partition i.e. is only allowed to use a small fraction of the hard drive or has a huge Windows.old folder. In other words it is installed incorrectly and needs to be reinstalled properly.

You will need to reinstall Windows as instructed here:

http://dellwindowsreinstallationguide.com/a-clean-install-of-windows/

This guide is very detailed and you may have difficulty following it if you had issues with my instructions above.

I was told by the person who installed it that there was only one partition. How does any of this make sense???
