Inspiron 1545 new screen

I recently smashed my laptop screen so I purchased a new one from amazon which was the same type. I installed the new screen but its zoomed into the corner and has all lines through it. Do I need to change any settings or anything?

Hi Rhysd113,

Check the status of the screen in BIOS. Restart the computer and tap F2 on Dell log and check if you find the same screen.

If the issue persists, run diagnostics on the LCD (Restart the computer by holding the “D” key and Power button simultaneously). Check the screen during diagnostics.

Awaiting your response!

Are you certain the panel is identical to the old one?  If it is, it's faulty -- if not, it's not compatible with your system.

Thanks for the reply.

I just checked the bios and where it says 'Panel type' this is = Unknown device installed. native resolution = 0 by 0.

I restarted by holding 'D' and the screen went through a sequence of different colours.

I forgot to mention my laptop works fine on an external monitor.

Thanks.

Since the screen is different than the original, it likely needs a new data cable - did you change that with the screen?

No, there was no new data cable with the screen. the original cable fits but obviously does not work correctly.

What are the Dell part numbers on the two screens?

The fact that the system doesn't recognize the screen indicates it's either faulty or not compatible with the system.  It comes up as a replacement for an N5110 system - not the 1545.  Since these were made by two different manufacturers for Dell, it's likely the screen won't work in your system.

Well it said it was compatible...  I made sure I chose the LCD not LED. It came with instructions to remove the inverter from the laptop and to plug directly into the new screen. backlight works fine but its just zoomed into the top left corner and has lines through. Is there any way I can post a picture on here?
