I cant seem to get a 720p (HD ready)signal via the hdmi port. i can get much higher and lower (when plugged into the appropriate hardware). Full HD ist a problem but i have a 720p HD (1280×720 progressive @50 & 60 Hz) tv in my photo studio

i can chose wxga 1280x768 but need the 1280×720

Hi ShotbyScott,

The issue seems to be with the aspect ratio. I would suggest you to adjust the aspect ratio of TV via settings menu to 16:9 and then try connecting HDMI cable and see if you are able to get 720p resolution.

You may also follow the steps below to completely switch to external display and see if it helps :

  • Connect the HDMI cable between your system and TV
  • Press Windows + C button on keyboard
  • Click on Devices
  • Click on Second Screen
  • Click on Second screen only
  • Try changing the resolution to 720p

Please reply with the findings. Will take it further.

thanks ill try that next time i'm in the photo studio .... i did forget to mention that i photograph with my camera tethered to my notebook. i.e i have a 5m usb cable running from my camera to my noteboook and the images appear on the big screen.

The has several advantages. I get the see a "real" version of what i'm shooing and not what the small screen con the camera displays.

My client also get a real time view of what I'm shooting via the second screen. Normally a large TFT or in this case a large flat screen tv.

But due to the great weather at the moment I'm out of the studio as much as I can :)

Hi ShotbyScott,

I understand that you need the display output on TV as well as laptop monitor. Please reply with the findings once you are able to perform the steps. I would be glad to assist you.

HI ... nope it doesn't work...

Hi ShotbyScott,

I did some further research and found that on some TV's 1360X768 and 1366X768 is considered as HD resolution instead of 1280X720. You may refer to link : http://bit.ly/cPgklG

I would suggest you to check the TV specifications in the manual for maximum resolution supported by TV.

Please share the findings.

Hi ShotbyScott,

You may try creating a custom resolution of 1280 X 720 @ 60Hz 32 bit and Timing Standard : CVT using Intel Control Panel. You may refer to article http://dell.to/17Uyt5N.

Hope this helps.
