Inspiron 15R 5521 - bluetooth unknown device driver failure ?
Hi recently purchased a Inspiron 15R 5521 from Dell Australia and took me a few weeks to install and setup the the system the way I want.
Today, I tried to enable bluetooth but the slider won't move to On mode, so I checked Device Manager and Bluetooth device was labeled as Unknown device.
So I checked my service tag numbered driver updates and there's a Intel Centrino Advance-N 2230 15.5.6.48 A02 driver update, so tried updating to that driver. But it returned device not configured correctly and prompting me to reinstall driver. Reinstalling driver fails with code 1 error.
Maybe something physically wrong with the Bluetooth side of the hardware ??? Anyway to confirm such without doing a full factory image restore as it took ages for me to setup the system the way I want !
What I've tried ?
- I've tried, uninstalling the bluetooth device from device manager and restarting Win 8 and reinstalling device via hardware change detection
- Tried uninstalling Centrino driver and installing previous version of the driver
Appreciate any help you folks can provide !
below are screenshots of what I see
My service tagged list of drivers showing Centrino Advance-N 2230 15.5.6.48 A02 driver

Looks like I fixed it, the official Intel Drivers http://www.intel.com/support/wireless/wlan/sb/CS-025792.htm + a system reboot were done. But Bluetooth didn't show up in device manager.
What changed it was hitting Fn+F2 to toogle wireless/bluetooth off and on a few times, after which another system reboot and guess what, Bluetooth detected and Bluetooth can be toggled on and off in Win8 device wireless settings !
